Focus group training, focus groups, needs assessments, results based management, program evaluation, evaluation research, strategic planning, teamwork training, policy analysis, policy researchTIP of the Month…

Remember that it is always better to undermoderate than to overmoderate. When you interject yourself too frequently or too intensely into the group process, you seriously run the risk of shaping and biasing the discussion--and of taking time away from respondents! We prefer that you sit, not stand (unless writing on a flip chart), refrain from taking notes, and avoid paraphrasing participant contributions. These three strategies will help you be less dominant in the group and leave more "air time" for participants.
