The International Program for Development Evaluation Training (IPDET) is an executive training program in development evaluation managed jointly by the Independent Evaluation Group of the World Bank and Carleton University. It is best known for its flagship program, an intensive and unique training opportunity offered once each year in Ottawa on the Carleton University campus in June and July. In 2007, 200 participants from over 65 countries attended the program. Since it began in 2001, IPDET has graduated more than 1200 alumni from over 130 different countries. IPDET alumni occupy senior and mid-level evaluation, audit and management positions in developed and developing governments, non-governmental organizations, bilateral and multilateral development agencies, and the private sector. The program features a two-week Core Course followed by a series of workshops, all taught by a dynamic group of leading-edge international faculty drawn from Southern and Northern institutions. The program is highly responsive to the changing international environment, addressing the requirements of new aid policies and delivery mechanisms that favour local ownership, increased national accountability, and partnership. Similarly, the curriculum strives to reflect the shifting of evaluation focus from project to program-, policy-, and country-level evaluation.
