Computerized Adaptive Assessment of Headache Impact
The goal of this research is to develop a comprehensive assessment system combining computerized adaptive generic and headache impact measures for desktop PC, tablet PC, or Internet administration. The system will allow the test administrator to configure test length; provide an option to screen for migraine using the 2004 International Classification of Headache Disorders 2nd edition (ICHD-II) migraine criteria; and will apply “voice prompt” technology to improve the accessibility of the CAT to low literate and visually impaired headache sufferers. Finally, the CAT we will be tested and improved through usability studies, and its responsiveness will be evaluated in a longitudinal clinical study.

Development of a Computerized Adaptive Test for Patients with HIV Infection
The purpose of this project is to develop a prototype HIV-specific computerized adaptive test (the HIV-CAT) that assesses patient reported outcomes in seven health domains of relevance in HIV disease; to test the feasibility and acceptability of administering the prototype HIV-CAT in clinical settings and through the Internet; and to initialize construction of item banks for five additional domains specifically relevant to HIV disease.

NIH/NHLBI $2,148,601
Computerized Adaptive Assessment of Asthma Impact
This Phase II effort intends to yield a comprehensive, fully-functional, yet efficient and less burdensome asthma outcomes measurement and monitoring system with demonstrated evidence of its administrative feasibility, reliability, validity, responsiveness, and potential for use in self-management. The fully-functional ASTHMA-CAT system will include generic, disease-specific, and control measures, and will provide options for the user to select generic and disease-specific HRQOL survey components. It will produce scores of documented comparability across multiple modes of administration; real time patient-, clinician-, and aggregate-level feedback reports; and useful interpretation guidelines to facilitate its routine application in care management.
