Janet Billson led a research and training group to Laos in November for the Foundation for Advanced Studies on International Development (FASID), Tokyo. The group explored the needs for a tourism development project in Savannakhet Province and City, along the Mekong River in southern Laos. The program was co-sponsored by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Participants attended GDI's regular two-day focus group training, and then put their learning to work by interviewing public sector and private sector respondents in two separate focus groups on the following days. In "rapid appraisal" form, we presented our 40-page report to JICA three days later in Vientiane! |
