GDI's team (Janet Mancini Billson, Martin Steinmeyer, Megan Mullins, and Suzanne Szabo) worked with the Town of Warren, Rhode Island, to conduct a needs assessment that resulted in a new community center for teens. The focus groups were conducted for the town's Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force in 2005. Dr. Suzanne Colby of Brown University's Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies assisted with the project.

Suzanne Szabo, Janet Billson, and Martin Steinmeyer led a focus group study in late 2005 for the Rhode Island Blood Center, to evaluate its new Ambassador Program. In 2006, Megan and Janet conducted several focus groups around the state for the Housing Works Rhode Island, exploring attitudes toward affordable housing and homelessness. The data were successfully used to win a ballot initiative on affordable housing in November 2006.

 

In Michigan, Megan Mullins put the finishing touches on GDI's focus group and survey study of community activism for the Kalamazoo Community Foundation.

Just completed: Focus groups for Brown University's Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies with middle and high school students in Warren and Bristol, Rhode Island, on the best time to intervene with a prevention program on teen drinking.
